We wanted to thank Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles for stopping by
our greenhouse. It's a great honor! We have tilapia in our nursery system right now and
hopefully in a month, will be able to start some produce.
Our newly-constructed, 8,000-square foot
greenhouse off Billy Watkins Road in Draffenville
will, before the end of the year, become a major
contributor to the local fresh produce market.
West KY Aquaponics will use an aquaponics
system within a greenhouse for production of
leafy green vegetables and harvest of tilapia fish.
Aquaponics is defined as a system of aquaculture in which the waste produced by farmed fish or other aquatic animals supply nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purifies the water.
Agri-tourism is another aspect of West KY Aquaponics. We will be offering greenhouse tours and educational seminars regarding aquaponics, sustainable certified naturally grown farming and possibly solar energy.
